Thinking and Doing

Too much reflection and we become lost in deep, mysterious questioning.  We momentarily become like a patch of frozen water in a flowing stream.

Too much doing and we lose sight of the purpose for what we are doing.  We move like a bubbling volcano.

May I set aside space for reflecting on the day's activities, slowly speaking prayers with periods of silence, and communicating my beliefs about this life in speech and writing, and then, unencumbered by the constant question, "why," may I redirect my attention to "what" and "how." Undisturbed by unavoidable interruptions, may I open to sensing the world as it is and move within it, with wonder, spontaneity, and gratitude.

  3. Wonderful. Too much thinking and too much doing can both lead to disaster. Balance is the key in all areas of life.

  4. This is so wise and beautiful, Jade! I have been drowning in introspection lately. I need to work on not being overcome, but not erring on the other side either.

    Mary Oliver is so wonderful.
